    BIM FOR EVERYTHING

There is a view around that BIM is really about building projects. In other words the ‘B’ in BIM stands for Building. It is interesting therefore that the University of Plymouth’s School of Marine Science and Engineering should show more than a passing interest. There is at Plymouth an enlightened view of how BIM is as relevant to them as to anyone in the more traditional places BIM is found. A week or so ago the Department assembled...

The Blog I Don't Want to Write

This is the blog I did not want to have to write. The end, the finish, the buck stops here. But in all sadness and ending comes newness and bright futures. It is with a heavy heart I say that the Lionville Middle School did not take first place at regional’s, but they did place 3 rd , and if you think about it, first year for the school, for the teacher and for myself, the mentor…..that’s pretty impressive. There were 52 schools...

Search multiple help files at once with the ProjectWise CHM help wrapper

Depending on which ProjectWise applications you have installed, you may also have several help files, and it may not always be obvious to you which help file to look in for information. To make things a little easier, there is a file called the "ProjectWise.chm", a help wrapper that provides a single point of entry to all the ProjectWise help files that may be installed on a given computer. Here's how to use it: First download the ProjectWise_help_wrapper...

    Printer issues with IPlot

We recently rolled over to V8i SS2. We are using an HP Color Laserjet 5550 dn printer for all of our 11x17 sheets. The PCL6 driver is loaded for the HP and IPlot V8i is loaded on the plot server. When we print from IPlot or from the Ogranizer it cuts off the top border line of the sheet. If we toggle off Use full paper size the entire sheet is printed but then it is not to scale. Any ideas?

How can I improve the fidelity of the markups in MicroStation that I created with Dynamic Plot?

We have added support for markups heads up viewing in the priority build of MicroStation SS2 and in MicroStation SS3. This is in addition to the preview. The heads up display is preferable since you can pan and zoom the design file and see the markups in place and not have to adjust the preview. Note that the preview is just a big thumbnail. To access the heads up display you need to have markups in a 2D file and do the following in MicroStation:...

Ease the pain and prevent painful restores!

Ok, so we've explained how to find the DMS folder id number in ProjectWise in a prior posting, so now if a user deletes a folder in SS3 you have to go through the painful process of finding the file/folder and restoring from your backup. Great, so how do you do this? Basic disaster/recovery information can be found in the Implementation Guide that is delivered in the server download files. In ProjectWise SELECTseries, development added some pretty...

Floor Manager in AECOsim Building Designer

In older versions of Building Applications, the variable BB_FLOORMASTER_DGN defined the what BB_FloorMaster.dgn was active. Within this file the various Floor Definitions were defined. When launching the Floor Manager, the actual BB_FloorMaster.dgn was entered. That is, the active file became the FloorMaster. This was obvious as the background became blue, and red rectangles appeared, displaying the defined Floors. Some users had a tendency to work...

As I write this, this students may be working on the model. I don't know for sure, and I won't know until Saturday. As far as I am involved, it is all up to them now. They are no longer meeting during class time, and even if they meet after school, I get out of the office much later than they get done class. The last thing I saw on Monday, was a bunch of buildings that needed to be placed, electrical connections that need tape and solder,...

Lionville Middle School has a unique way of adding things up. Special thanks to Principal Ross for making it all possible!. When you add 1 teacher and 1 mentor and multiply their efforts by 16 students. Then take that total and divide it across 6 hours, divide 6 pizzas among these people, what does that give you? Besides 4 pairs of Uggs getting painted and a lot of laughing? A very productive day!! That's what. Let me explain, this past Friday...

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jon Ross, the principal of Lionville Middle School this past week. I must say, the reason the students are excited, is because the teachers are excited, and the teachers are excited, is because Jon is excited. Although a few minutes late, I walked in to the class where all of the Future Cities engineering has been happening and Jon was at the front of the room speaking to the students. It was evident from the first...

Learning MicroStation Addins Step by Step[9]

    第九章、用C++/CLI编写Addins Chapter 9. Writing Addins using C++/CLI 从上一章我们能够看到,要调用MDL API函数需要通过DllImport属性对其进行声明。好在我们所演示的mdlMesh_newPolyfaceFromXYTriangulation函数还算简单,而且要生成一个网格曲面仅调用这一个函数即可。 From the last...
