My name is Simon Williams.
After some issues installing my old version of V8 onto my new machine, I've arrived here. I'm posting to introduce myself and check out what the rest of the Microstation users are up to.
I was trained in Cartography and Surveying using Microstation, and have used numerous versions in my career which has seen me work across many different fields. I currently work part time at a local Council as the "Building and Urban Designer" - near Hobart, Tasmania. I also have my own design business - Concrete Dreams, specialising in skate park design, and electric vehicle design and construction. I am a draftsman as much as anything - producing plans for construction of civil and architectural projects, and other product related projects.

I taught myself the 3D aspects of Microstation. I studied photography for a couple of years, which had a huge impact on my understanding of lighting - which I apply to the virtual world. I prefer to work in the old Microstation J environment... they got it right with this version - subsequent versions have had annoying changes made to basic things like 3D view control and depth locking.

Designed and modelled in Microstation J - with various components CNC milled from DGN exported files.
