I'm hoping to get a fast GEOPAK machine and was wondering if someone would tell me if this is a good configuration or should I spend more money!
It's better than the one I am running right now. Should be better than good. Looks like your spec lists a Xeon processor. Mine has i7 processor. I've sort of lost track of the advantages that the 2 processor families have, so might be worth inquiring a little more about the processor.
Don;t forget about visualization and rendering either. If you are planning to do high end rendering, too, then it would be good to also get input from those who do that kind of stuff.

yes, the i7 and xeon e5 or e7 is an issue for me. not able to get into the xeon e7 without another grand on top of that price.
I am worried the 7000 4gb graphics card will only be adequate.

FWIW, normally we suggest posting h/w-related inquiries in the Everything Else forum (mainly because this subject can bridge a number of topics), but we took the original "wiki article comment" and put it in this community forum, mainly because the context seemed to be geared for this.
Since it appears you are also looking at other products and capabilities, this thread was moved to the Everything Else forum to get additional input from others who use other functionality in other Bentley products.
I will wait for someone in this community to say "hey, I'm running something similar or better and it's not shutting down the program!" before I order. I'm not convinced the hardware is the issue. I think we need new software and this SS3 has issues.
