3D Mouse and Microstation (No drivers!)

Hello

A few months back I bought a 3D Connexion 'SpaceExplorer' (a 3D mouse) ...... partly because on the Bentley web site it says they are 'compatible' with Microstation.

I'm afraid I must disagree with this. I isn't totally incompatible .... it kinda works ... but only in 'camera' mode .... not in regular 'view navigation' mode. This severely reduces the usefulness of this device. There are no special drivers for Microstation (unlike for a whole raft of other 3D packages). SketchUp for example (and Google Earth) work great.

I've recently downloaded the latest drivers and there's still no option/settings for Microstation. This is despite me logging a request/tech support call ... some months ago.

I must say I find this very unsatisfactory as it clearly stated (at the time) that these devices from 3D Connexion were 'supported' (can't find anything about it at the moment on the Bentley site ????????)

I notice there are a few posts from some while back in relation to these 3D mice .... there were some issues ..... in my view the situation hasn't really improved.

Anyone else using such things and do you feel the current situation is satisfactory (there not particularly cheap either!)

  • Should be supported:  http://www.3dconnexion.com/company/press-room/pressdetail/browse/1/article/bentley-systems-v8i-now-supports-3dconnexion-3d-mice.html?tx_ttnews[backPid]=88&cHash=1479905ecf

  • You can always argue about what "supported" means, it works but not to the extent so I could recommend it to anyone else....

If we could get a behavior like in Google Earth, then it's a different story.

I'm a bit surprised as everybody that I talked to that had used it in Solid Works, they basically say  that they couldn't work without it.

The impression I have is that it works for zooming and panning, rotating doesn't work.

I tried different settings and I can't get it to work in a good way.......
