Bump.
Just started working for a new client. They have a managed workspace in ProjectWise. They used to be an AutoCAD shop. So setting up sheets is done the AutoCAD way - attach all required references to the default model of a sheet file, open the sheet file, run their Create Viewport tool. It switches you to the design model, prompts you to select the diagonal corners of your viewport and when you are done, you are back in the sheet, looking at the sheet layout with a rectangular reference file boundary.
The sheet origin is 0,0. The rectangle is in the sheet, not the model. the coordinates of the sheet are useless for anything other than plot limits.
We have always kept our sheets at full scale, in their original coordinates, bringing the border and the layout to the project. Then, you can actually reference in the sheet to the model, as well as adjacent sheets and copy things back and forth between model and sheet.
If this client was in V8i, I would use "Activate" in the right click menu to work in "model space" from the sheet. But the client is adamant about XM only, and as I mentioned, its a ProjectWise managed workspace, so opening the file with V8i is not really possible.
So, in AutoCAD, you can edit a model while in the layout and they have a very cool tool called Change Space which lets you pick an object while in a layout and move it from model to sheet or sheet to model. I really need something just like that for this project. Any ideas?
