Geopak Draw Profile - Projection

I started a shared use path project in SS2. The path has it's own alignment/stationing being used in corridor modeler. To maintain the BL Survey alignment in the plan sheets, I used the Projection option under Draw Profile after generating the shared use path profile. This worked fine in SS2.

The project has been migrated to SS3 now. I imported the profile using Import Geometry under General Geometry tab. The profile does not allow me to make edits now. I have tried creating a best fit, then convert to profile rule; however, none of these options give me the ability to edit.

I have also tried using the Projection for Draw Profiles. This returns an error (Command not defined for this application). Is there a fix, work around, or best practices for projecting a shared use path alignment and profile onto the baseline?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

  • If I'm getting the picture here... In SS2

    a. In the gpk file there is a BL chain and a chain for the Shared Use Path.

    b. Also there is a profile for the BL_pr

    c. You created a profile for the Shared Use Path_pr on the profile cell for the Share Use Path chain

    d. You then used the draw profile tool to project the Shared Use Path_pr profile to the BL chain profile cell to present on the Plan and Profile sheets.

So here is what to do in SS3

    1. Use Import Geometry to import the chain BL and Shared Use Path

    2. On the import dialog when you check the alignments(BL, Shared Use Path

    3. There is also a profiles list with all the available profiles in the gpk file for each of the checked alignments

    4. Take care to select only the profile for the chain it was created from in the gpk file,  BL_pr for BL and Share Used Path_pr for Shared Use Path

    5. Now when you want to edit with SS3 the Shared Use Path_pr profile, select the Shared Use Path alignment and open its profile window.

    6. When you select the line in the profile window it will be available for editing.

    7. Once done editing, in SS3 if you want to view the changes on the BL_pr window, Use the Vertical Geometry tool: Project Profile to element  tool

    8. At the prompts, select the Shared Use Path_pr line first , then select the BL line second.

    9. Open the BL_pr window and the projected profile will be there to view not edit.

    FOR PLAN and Profile Sheets

    10. You will need to export the edited Shared Use Path_pr to the gpk and use the Draw Profle tool with the projection option to the BL profile cell.

  • What you have suggested works! I wasn't familiar with the Project Profile to Element tool, but it helped accomplish what I needed.

Thank you very much for your help Vern.

  • I was having the same problem as the original poster. However, when I export the projected profile, the profile created in Geopak appears to be a simplified geometry version of the profile. It appears to just be connecting the end points and not actually representative of the existing ground. Is there a setting for tolerance/increments to use during the Export to Geopak?
  • I'd like to look at this with you and then we can post the solution/issue. Please contact me when available.
    Thanks
