  • Robert Woodbury holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Carleton University (Lieutenant Governor's Silver Medal) and Master of Science and Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University. He was a faculty member in Architecture and the Engineering Design Research Center at CMU from 1982-1993, at Adelaide University (Australia) from 1993-2001, at the Technical University of British Columbia from 2001-2002 and is now at Simon Fraser University. He was founding Chair of the Graduate Program in the School of Interactive Arts and Technology at SFU. From 2005-2008 he was Scientific Director of the Canadian Design Research Network. He is currently Chair of the Advisory Board for the Waterloo/SFU/Ryerson entry to the 2009 Solar Decathlon. In 2008 he was awarded the Innovative Research Award from the Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture and the Tee Sasada Award from the Association for Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia. In 2000 he won the Stephen Cole the Elder Prize as one of two top teachers at Adelaide University. He is a former Olympian in sailing.
  • Volker Mueller joined Bentley Systems as Research Director for Computational Design in January 2008. His role is identification and pursuit of opportunities for long range innovation in collaboration with researchers and innovators in academia and practice. His mission is to find solutions for the emerging challenges of forward-looking, future-oriented, ever-evolving design firms. He has presented at numerous events, including peer-reviewed academic conferences, and has taught GenerativeComponents workshops at MIT, Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, Georgia Tech, the National University of Singapore, and other universities. Prior to joining Bentley Systems, Volker worked for about ten years in an architectural firm developing BIM-based and parametric integrated practices. He earned a Dipl.-Ing. der Architektur from the Technische Universität Berlin and as a Fulbright Scholar a Master of Architecture degree from the Ohio State University. He conducted post-graduate research at the Computer Graphics Research Center in Darmstadt. After returning to Columbus, Ohio he contributed for five years as developer to 3D modeling software.
