Sometimes I also sense an overambition to get posts in what is percived as "correct" forum. Or perhaps there is an algoritm somewhere > try a new post with fewer offensive words.
Unfortunatly I don't think there are any books on BA8,11 yet. There are a few "best practices". A few free videos and ofcourse the pay for courses in  Bentley Institute. There is a not so expensive "all inclusive" program you might try.

An alternative to the site's search ability is to use Google.com with a site:communities.bentley.com qualifier (i.e. site:communities.bentley.com/forums to specify the search only look in public forums, site:communities.bentley.com/wiki to specify the search only look in wiki articles, etc.)

I am very new here but have been surprised and disappointed by this forum.

I posted a general enquiry to try and find out about literature fo9r home study of Bentley Architecture, hoping to catch the eye of a serious user who might be able to guide me in the right direction.   The thread was moved straight away to Forums>General>Everything Else>Microstation Literature/Textbooks.  All very logical but mine is the only post in that backwater and nobody is likely to go there in passing who might be able to help.

My experience of other communities on line has been much better and more helpful, for example in various Linux Communities.

Another point, the search engine does not seem to search on authors so the only way I could find my post, to see if anybody had replied, was to use the url sent to my email address when it was moved, to find my post.  Of course nobody has replied.

In summary, the forum is clearly controlled by Bentley and could be much improved.

    Hi Thomas,

Still learning about this forum so please forgive the multi quotes.  The links you sent are excellent and many thanks.  I now understand why I am having difficulty getting literature on Bentley Architecture; there is none yet, so the podbean link was particularly helpful.  Being podcasts the streams use QuickTime and are quite small on screen.  Is it possible to find the same videos but in the same format as the first link?

    Any further guidance much appreciated.

    Thanks again,

    Budgie

  • No offense, but one post does not make a full experience. There are many here, myself included, who have learnt a LOT from this forum and continue to do so. I do agree that there is some lack of communication when it comes to some actions by the Mods, but don't let that give you the wrong impression.

As for literature, do a search on the forums for Bentley Learn. Some good material there and I hear that Khoi is trying to get the V8i version of 2D by Examples going. Fingers crossed. In the end, many of the V8 tools are the same, just in a different interface and if you have used previous versions you shouldn't find it too hard to pick up V8i.

  • Hi Thomas,

Many thanks for the reply and the suggestions.  Will keep looking.

I suppose the absence of teach yourself literature is a marketing thing.  I wish I had purchased ACad now as there is much more info freely available but too late now!  Misplaced loyalty I guess from Intergraph days.

    Regards,

    Budgie
