Changes to This Site

The "main menu" has been relabled and reorganized a bit. It is slightly different than originally planned, mainly due to minimize disruption of existing links in any content. If you happen to enounter a broken link, please let us know by posting a new thread in the Be Communities Feedback Forum (including the page URL where the broken link is) or by submitting the page URL on the Be Communities website feedback form.

Update:

Single sign-on is an active project. It does not look like it will be implemented in November, but it is one of our top priorities right now.

So far, we have removed over 100 communities from the site -- we are looking at removing and/or merging another 70 or so.

We added two widgets to the Forums applications.

• In the right-hand column now, there is a "Be Communities Help" area that has links to areas that provide helpful information about the forums and things related to the forums.
• In the MicroStation V8i community forums, there are links directly to other forums in the MicroStation V8i community. That helps with navigation from one community forum to the next.

Also, a Twitter feed widget was added to the site homepage (in the left-hand column). This shows the last 4 or 5 tweets posted on http://www.twitter.com/bentleysystems

This is an early "head's up" to identify some things we are looking at doing to the site in the November/December timeframe (in the order we are planning to do them):

1. Single sign-on, providing the ability to sign-on to any Bentley Web property and then subsequently being "signed in" to all other Bentley Web properties (yes, that is going to happen :).
2. Clean up inactive communities.
3. Clean up members and blogs associated with "bogus accounts".
4. Small reorganization of the communities:
   • Rename the label "Solutions" to "Solutions Communities".
   • Rename the label "Products" to "Product Communities".
   • Rename the label "Members" to "Users".
   • Rename "Users >> Be Communities Site Files" to  "Users >> Site Files".
   • Rename "Users >> Be Communities Member Blogs" to  "Users >> Blogs".
   • Rename "Users >> Be Communities Member Images and Files" to  "Users >> Images and Files".
5. Move active "Bentley" communities to "Communities >> Bentley Communities".
6. Rename the label "Help" to "About Us".

We are investigating how some existing links might be affected by #4, but we believe the simplification of the "top-level" entry points would be a welcome change. Plus, that provides us with some flexibility to open up some other "top-level" entry points.

More information on each of these things will be communicated as we get closer to doing them.
