I have been involved in CAD since the mid-70s. Over the years I've had the pleasure to work with many of the pioneering CAD systems but the one I liked the best (and still do) is, of course, MicroSation.
Back in 1989 I wrote a book titled Inside MicroStation published in 1990 by OnWord Press. The book has remained in print since then and has sold over 50,000 copies. It is now in its 7th edition covering V8i. I wrote a few other books that have gone out of print (MicroStation for AutoCAD Users, Managing and Networking MicroStation, various delta books.)
In 1995 I joined Bentley Systems to work with other colleagues in establishing Bentley's new MicroStation Institute (later renamed the Bentley Institute), a training organization whose mission was - still is - assisting our users in mastering the use of Bentley products in a production environment.
In my latest venture, I have been given the exciting challenge to put the NETWORK into the BE Careers Network, Bentley's premier academic outreach program. Along with my fellow Bentley colleagues I assist post-secondary school students and educators to learn and use our products in the academic environment with the ultimate goal to graduate new designers and engineers familiar with the tools of their trade.
When not writing or blogging I like to dabble in metal sculpture art and just "build things."
