For those of you planning to attend this year's ACADIA conference in Chicago, Illinois, the 22nd through the 25th of October, you may be interested to know Bentley is holding another of its extremely popular GenerativeComponentstm workshops just prior to ACADIA event on October 20st and 21nd.

Attention: The registration deadline has been extended to October 9th.

Bentley GenerativeComponentstm is a highly regarded and unique parametric and associative design software product with application both to conventional architectural design as well as to more geometrically unconventional architectural forms.

About the Workshop

This workshop introduces designers, researchers, and academic faculty to the underlying concepts of parametric design and their application to a variety of design issues, including environmental analysis. Once created, these models can then be used to explore and test a range of alternatives which would not be possible if each variation had to be ‘modeled by hand' with a conventional CAD application.

The workshop runs for two days (October 20th and 21st, 9AM to 4PM) at the Chicago office of Skidmore Owings & Merrill, LLP. (224s Michigan Avenue, Suite 1000, Chicago Illinois 60604) The workshop instructors are Robert Woodbury - Simon Fraser University Professor, and Volker Mueller - Bentley Research Director for Computational Design.

The registration fee for this workshop is $200 per attendee. Note: all fees collected benefit the ACADIA event. Bentley does not receive any compensation for sponsoring the workshop.

Submitting your Request to Attend

To ensure each participant's experience is a positive one, the class is limited to no more than twenty attendees. Because of the workshop's popularity and exceptional attendee experience, all candidate attendees must submit a one page statement of their interest in parametric design, describing either a recent project (including environmental analysis, where applicable) or describing a reasonably small, self-contained design problem which is inherently parametric in nature and some aspect of the possible approach they propose to adopt. Include one image of a prior design.

You must submit this application brief to ed.wright@bentley.com with the subject line: ACADIA 2009 Workshop.

All applications must be submitted no later than October 9th, 2009.

Equipment Required

You must bring your own laptop to participate in the workshop. Upon acceptance as an attendee to the workshop, the GenerativeComponentstm software will be sent to you just prior to the event. Please make sure you install it before attending the workshop.
