Hi Guys, We often get asked about producing rendered images and fly throughs etc, and indeed we have shown similar things at User group Meetings in the past. I got asked again today to produce some examples. Attached below are some stills from an AVI I produced from an MX model. All of this was done using MX V8i Standalone, so you have the tools to do exactly what you see below. Overall 3d View of the Models View 1 near the Start, bottom right of...

Hi All, Just wanted to let you know we have had a bit of a purge on Service Ticket closures. So it may be that you are getting / already received a number of emails from us at Bentley regarding Service Tickets. Mostly it will be about Service Tickets we have resolved, but just not completed by closing the ST down. Although some may be about outstanding issues. They also may go back some time too, maybe to September 2009. Quicker closure of ST's...

Hi All, Something that just came up on support, about Isopachytes. Did you know you can take an Isopachyte Triangulation in to the Surface Analysis Wizard ? If you do you cn quickly and easily generate Isopachyte Contours and Isopachyte Level Bands, ie areas of equal depths. Ideal for simple overlay jobs. Will try to posting a bit more regularly. If there is anything specifc you want to see, either reply on the Blog, or email me. simon.pegg@bentley...

Hi all, Somthing that came out at the User Group Meetings, was the lack of notcie we gave on forthcoming software releases. You all understood that it was dificult for us to give a specific date for a release, due to many factors affecting the release, but wanted at least a rough time scale some time in advance. This was so you could plan installs and upgrades, and not find out a few days after upgrading, that we had released an update. So here's...

Its a very handy tool, and after going through it, it was exactly what he wanted. I'm sure a lot have people have seen and used it but just to remind you.... Go in to Analysis>Surface Analysis and pick the model you wnat to analyse. It triangulates it in the back...

Hi All, Just a a short post about something which has gone down well at the User Group meetings. At MX V8i SS1, you can now incorporate linemode code to attach reference files. It uses a newish Major Option, called Major Option SCRIPT. What you do is attach all you reference files, and then save the script file, which is a .mxrefs file. Then you can call this .mxrefs file inside an input file using linemode code incorporating major option script....

Hello Again, Something we get asked about every so often, is how to produce a Profile Drawing for a roundabout, showing all the legs to a common chainage. Its not that striaghtforward unless you are quite experienced in Linemode, and you certainly can't do it interactively. Anyway, i have a couple of input files which will do this for you. Both produce the profiles, but they annotate the chainage slightly differently. The first one uses a dummy Master...

Hello Again, I said that I'd try and post something about V8i SELECT Series 1. So here's something quickly. You may have noticed a little icon in the top right hand corner of the Output Window (see Below) This functionality is called 'Pinning', and allows you to temporarily minimise a dialogue. So when you click on the Pin icon, the Output Window disappears, and you get the text 'MX Output Window' in the bottom left hand corner of the Frame, (see...

Hello Everyone, A month has gone since my last post. Sorry for not posting anything recently. Anyway something technical today. I've had a couple of people recently ask me about displaying tadpoles between two strings, which were either part of a survey or between a surveyed and a design string. You can do it, but the two strings do need to be in the same model. You can use something called Slope Signature Strings. Creating Slope Signature Strings...

As well as some exciting new MX Functionality and Civil Platform tools, there are the usual fixes to customer reported problems, in the region of 200. So its well worth running with this version. Hi All, Sorry for missing out last week, busy week, and ran out of time to blog. Had a few calls which will make useful subjects for a blog posting, so hope to post a few this week. References are a useful way to work, and are part of the CAD platform functionality. It allows you to Reference in a drawing to your MX Display, without having to convert it all to MX Strings. You can attach all sorts of different files, including DGN's DWG's and DXF's...

Hello All, Back after the weekend, and its looking really Autumnal now :-(. Anyother quick post prompted by a Service Ticket today. How annoying is it when you have to locate the MX Project Folder to open an input file, DWG, DGN or whatever ? Over the years I must have spent hours browsing to the right place, and often going to the wrong one, particularly if its on a Network. Since V8i (and before that in some of the MX Tools), we've had the Project...

Hello, Quick one today on a Friday afternoon. If you're displaying multiple models in a project regularly, you could create yourself a Display Set. This contains a group of models, which you can easily display together, with one click. You create a Display Set on the MX Model Display Toolbar, using the green icon on the far right hand end. On the next Panel, you tick the models you want to add, which it displays, then hit the Save button, and give...

Hello, Someone just asked me about getting infomration about two adjacent strings, just for checking purposes. He didn't know about the Measure Crossfall and Gradient Tool, which can produce this exact sort of information. It can be found on the Status Toolbar or, under View>Status>Measure Crossfall and Gradient. This dynamic option finds and displays the incoming and outgoing gradients, and the crossfalls to the left and right, of a selected...
