INGR TIFF Images Being Attached in the Wrong Location

Problem Description

I upgraded from MicroStation V8.5 to MicroStation V8i and my INGR TIFF raster images show being attached in the wrong location.

Steps to Resolve

Back in the 2004 edition Bentley couldn't read the header of an INGR TIFF image in different units.  In V8i we can now do that.  If you’re INGR TIFF images have a header in Meters.  It didn't matter what the GeoTIFF unit in the preferences for raster manager was set to it would read as Meters every time it was attached.  In 2004 your working units were set to work in Feet.  So in V8i your working units were set in preferences to Feet.  When you attached the INGR TIFF image it would read the header in Feet and it would be attached in the wrong location.  Changing the raster file unit in Workspace> Preferences > Raster Manager > Georeference to Meters and then attaching the image gives the desired results.

Your INGR TIFF image has 2 headers.  In MicroStation V8.5 this was not a problem.  In MicroStation XM and V8i Raster Manager is reading the INGR TIFF header instead of the GEOTIFF header.

Please try the following.

1)      Opened the DGN file in XM or V8i.

2)      In Workspace > Configuration > New

3)      Variable:    MS_RASTER_IGNORE_INGRTAGS_WITH_GEOTIFFTAGS

4)      Variable Value:  1

5)       Detach the TIFF image.

6)      Exit MicroStation completely.

7)      Go into MicroStation

8)      Attach the TIFF image.

9)      Double click on the raster image in Raster Manager.  If the variable is being recognized correctly in Element Information > Image > Format will show as GEOTIFF.  If it shows INGR TIFF then it is not recognizing the Environment Variable correctly.

NOTE:  If you have multiple workstations attaching INGR TIFF raster images then you will need to define the MS_RASTER_IGNORE_INGRTAGS_WITH_GEOTIFFTAGS   environment variable in MicroStation on all of your workstations.  The MS_RASTER_IGNORE_INGRTAGS_WITH_GEOTIFFTAGS   environment variable is only valid for MicroStation XM and V8i.

Your raster image should now be attaching correctly in Raster Manager.
