Upgrading Floor Master dgnlib from ABD SS5 to ABD SS6

Product(s):AECOsim Building Designer
Version(s):V8i
Area:Floor Management
Subarea:N\A

There were several changes made to the Floor Manager between SS5 and SS6. These requires the Floor Master dgnlib to be updated as you transition from one version to the next, unfortunately this update currently requires manual intervention to complete the upgrade. The following procedure is necessary to update the floor manager to be compatible with AECOsim Building Designer SS6. Since each project typically contains its own unique floor manager dgnlib file, this process will need to be repeated for each project or project template moving forward to AECOsim Building Designer SS6.

(Note that if the number of floors involved is small it will probably be quicker to recreate using a clean BB_FloorMaster.dgnlib from a commercially released SS6 dataset)

This upgrade should be completed AFTER, you have successfully migrated your dataset to SS6. Before proceeding with the steps below ensure:

  1. you have backups of the files that you are about to process
  2. you have run an error free DataGroup validation before proceeding with these steps

Steps to upgrade:

  1. Directly open the project Floor Master dgnlib file. The location of  the active Floor Manager dgnlib is defined by configuration variable BB_FLOORMASTER_DGN and typically points towards your project dataset.
  2. Once the Floor Master dgnlib is open, launch from the file menu Utilities>Building Designer Utilities>DataGroup Upgrade Utility…
  3. From within the DataGroup Upgrade Utility, select Upgrade
  4. We recommend you change the annotation property from “false” to “true” for all major floors. This will enable the elevation annotation introduced in SS5 and enhanced in SS6. (if your floor properties do not save, select “Cancel Edits” and see the workaround below which may apply)

Workaround

If you are using the released build (08.11.09.829), this step should not be necessary unless the floor master was modified with RC or Beta versions.

In the  Floor Manager dialog, you will now need to edit and save at least one property for each hierarchy of the Floor Manager

  1. For the Project, select a property, edit the value and save edits. (tip: select a property that has no value assigned and assign to equal 1 (remember the property you edited, because you will want to return the value to its original state when completed)
  2. For the Site, select a property, edit the value and save edits.
  3. For the Buildings, select on property, edit the value and save edits. (if you have multiple buildings, edit and save a property for each building)
  4. From the list of Floors, select the floor closest to elevation 0, this is typically the last floor in the list. If your upgrade was successful, you should know be able edit and save any floor property. (If still unsuccessful in saving floor properties, select the parent building then reselect the last floor in the list and try again, you should have success on the second attempt)
