Jan, you were right until recent 8.11.7 releases. There are now some civil applications that package Map functionality, and I think InRoads is one of them. However, if I remember correctly (again) the Map functionality is not "activated" until you choose the "Activate Map" button or menu item. Until you do that, the Microstation functionality is what you're using. It will be important to know if you did this before doing the attachment.
Thanks,
Martin
Hi Ben,
as far as I know Bentley Map is not "included" in other Bentley product, it is sold independently as the application running on top of MicroStation. Please check in MicroStation Help menu, if there is "About Bentley Map" item or "About MicroStation V8i" only to be sure you really use Bentley Map.
MicroStation V8i SELECTseries 1 (08.11.07.54) offers basic support for SHP referencing itself, Bentley Map added some extra functionality to SHP support, so for bug reporting it is important to be sure if MicroStation or Bentley Map is used.
Please let me know the result of saving new SHP in ArcMap has helped. If the problem will still carry over, I can try to check at with my installations of MicroStation and ArcMap.

I am using MS 08.11.07.54 with InRoads, which is supposed to include Bentley Map in the product. I don't have ArcMap but I have a co-worker who was going to create a PDF for me using it, so I should know this morning.
Thanks
Ben
the message tells nothing more than something went wrong, but it is hard to decide if it is because of a bug in Bentley Map or SHP file is corrupted.
You didn't write what version of BM you use, sometimes what crashes in one version works fine in the newer one. Of course you should create Service Ticket for this problem and send the file to Technical Support, as they can identify, why BM crashed, which is defintely wrong.
My experience with SHP files is that quite often they are not perfect depending on the source application. If you have an access to ArcMap, you can try to open the file in ESRI environment and to save it again in the new file. It helped me in few cases.

Hi,
I'm new to Bentley Map and I'm trying to reference an SHP file. When I went to reference it with the reference file manager dialog box, it gave me this error "an exception was caught while trying to reference attach file". Does anyone know what this means and is there a way around it?
