You can draw, enter or import the coordinates of a custom baseline or alignment for a fence report, determining the projection of points onto a fence.

When you do not specify the baseline, the software creates a “best fit” baseline for the set of borehole points, and projects onto that to create a fence report. However, you can specify your own baseline either by entering coordinates of baseline points or by drawing. By specifying a custom baseline you determine the view created of your borehole points. 

A baseline does not have to be a single straight line. It can be a series of connected line segments, although the report will still project each point to the baseline at its closest distance to the baseline. In the site map below, the baseline traces the path of the main road from lower right to upper left, as shown.


When the fence report is plotted, it will project the each of the points perpendicularly onto its closest segment. You can also limit, from the baseline, the distance within which points will be included in the fence.

If you have Version 8.2, you can use an alignment instead of a baseline for determining a fence report’s view. Alignments are entered or imported into the Alignments tab in INPUT, which is added when you activate Alignments Support from a menu option.


Alignments plot on the site map, similar to baselines in this regard. However, you can store multiple alignments with a project, and select the one you want to use for generating a fence report. Baselines are not stored with the project, and must be recreated or re-imported after you exit OUTPUT (or saved in a script). Here is a site map with multiple alignments:
