WaterCAD and Civil3D

Hello,

it will be nice and great if Bentley could add a function where pipe modelled in WaterCAD/WaterGem can be exported to Civil3D as pressure network object or pipe network.

I wondering if Bentley is considering to add in this function into their waterCAD future releases.

  • You can open the model in WaterCAD/GEMS with the  AutoCAD Civil 3D interface.  From WaterCAD/GEMS you can export the model to a .dxf and in Civil 3D create a pipe network with the .dxf.

  • I know your suggested procedure and is long process. The implication is you have to remodel in Civil 3D every time you optimize your pipe network in WaterCAD. it will save time if Bentley have a plugin or feature that will allow export of pipe network to Civil3D pipe network/pressure network. Another feature. For example in  Windes (for drainage) you can model your drainage network in Windes and export directly to Civil3D pipe Network and also carry out utilities clash detection. In summary Bentley need to introduce  3D model to waterCAD/WaterGEMS to have them listed as BIM software...

  • Are you set on using Civil 3D, or would you consider using Bentley software for your civil needs? Because you can export the WaterCAD/WaterGEMS model to a 3D 'i-model' which you can then open in MicroStation (as well as other Bentley products).

We have a great new product called Bentley Subsurface Utility Engineering which is ideal for clash detection of utilities. You can read a bit more about it here:  www.bentley.com/.../top+advantages.htm

  • I am working  in a team that uses Civil3D to design Civil Engineering projects. my responsibility is to model, perform hydraulic calculation and output potable pipe networks in WaterCAD  to Civil3D as pipe/pressure networks. Currently i am working on project with more than 3000 nodes (a  large master-plan project in Kuwait). Exporting 2D line from WaterCAD to Civil3D before converting then to Civil3d object is not efficient. way to work.

  • I have formally logged an enhancement request (#128897) for the product management team to consider your request for future versions.

The items mentioned by Mal Sharkey are for MicroStation users, however your request is for AutoCAD users which is why we have logged this enhancement.
