Unexpected High Flow - WaterGEM

When I was working on Steady State analysis of a system with 8,310 gallon per day demand, I realized that one node with 2.36 gpm demand had 23.6 gpm demand instead. At that time, steady State was working.  I corrected the demand at that node, which should decrease the total demand by 30,585.6 gallon.  But, when I re-run the steady state, 3,600 gpm flow is trying to go to the node.  We could not figure out why. There is no such demand assigned.

We need to make this model work as soon as possible. I wonder if someone could give us an advice on what to look for.

  • Scott,

Thank you so much again for reviewing the model together over the phone this morning.
It’s such a relief to have a working model.

I changed the calc. option for the model that I have been making some changes. I also put back the same pump curve (30gpm at 185 ft).  But, the network is still unbalanced for EPS analysis.
I could not figure out why.

I just uploaded the file.  I wonder if you could take a look at it.  I changed the pipe sizes, 6,000 gallon tank to 5,000 gallon tank, and added another set of a pump & FCV upstream of the 3,000 gallon Tank so that it doesn’t become dry.

Thanks again.  If I don’t talk to you today, I hope you’ll have a Happy Thanks Giving Day!

  • Hello Yoko,

It looks like you added another pump and FCV to the model (pump Pump-WTP 2 and valve FCV-UF to Tank 2). Did you make other changes as well? Adjusting the calculation options on the model that you provided me yesterday allows the EPS simulation to compute without issue. If you want, I can resend that model back to you.

    Regards,
    Scott
  • Scott,

All other changes are explained above. But, I guess re-modifying the older model that works is a better option. I have it with me, so you don't have to send it. Thank you so so much!

    Have a great weekend!
