Watercad Output Reports with Named Views and Symbology

I need some assistance generating pdf reports. I have two alternative pipe layouts to service the same area, and numerous scenarios for each layout. I have created named views and have tried to adjust the symbology for each view. However, when I switch between scenarios (therefore switching to an alternative layout) the symbology becomes jumbled as the number and location of pipes and joints changes between scenarios. I can go back through and realign the symbology, but it is then re-jumbled when I switch to the alternative layout. My question is, is there a way to set the symbology for each view? Locking the location and orienatation of symbology to a named view.

A few other simpler questions:

When you rotate symbology, can you rotate the entire body of text, or does it have to be individual text lines?

Can you turn off individual element symbology? I've got a lot of joints in a confined area, and I only need to show one elements symbology.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Tyler,

Can you post screen captures of what you want it to look like for each layout/scenario, and what it looks like (jumbled) when you switch?

    Best regards,
    Rob.

  • Rob,

The two screen shots are pasted below. The top one is what the base scenario looks like when I align the symbology manually. The second one is what happens when I swap to the other scenario. I have completed the suggestions that Mark posted prior to yours (many of which have been extremely beneficial), but I hope you can see what I mean with the 'jumbled' issue.

    Thanks,

    Tyler

  • Hi Tyler,

Can you send your file (or at least the portion of the file that you are showing here)?

You can send it (zipped) using the process in the below link (or you can attach it to your reply if you prefer).

  • I chatted more with Tyler offline.

He is using active topology to create two layouts as shown above. For the elements that are only on in one of the two scenarios, Tyler was able to get the annotation positioned as desired.
However, Tyler's issue was with elements that were in both scenarios. He was trying to adjust the annotations for those elements based on the other elements in the vicinity. A single annotation can be on/off in different symbology definitions/scenarios, but can only be at one location.

He will try to place those annotation at a location that will work across both scenarios.
If that doesn't cover it for him... I also suggested that Tyler could: 1) Create a selection set on the few elements that need annotations in multiple locations, 2) define two sets of the same annotations for that selection set (using a folder to group them), and then use Symbology definitions to control visibility of one or the other.
