Dividing Catchment in StormCAD

After drafting storm water network in StormCAD; is there tool able to split the project into catchments and assign those catchments to the nodes where it does drain into according to the topo? if yes; please elaborate using that tool. I am asking that due to the large project and minimize the time of drafting the catchments manually.

Thanks,

  • Please see the following Support Solution on catchment delineation:

    http://communities.bentley.com/products/hydraulics___hydrology/w/hydraulics_and_hydrology__wiki/9590.can-stormcad-civilstorm-sewergems-sewercad-or-pondpack-perform-a-watershed-delineation

As Sushma mentioned, once you have the catchments delineated, you can import them into StormCAD using Modelbuilder. This will automatically create the catchment elements in your StormCAD model. Their scaled areas can be automatically used during calculations.

  • But how to link the catchments to the nearest manhole in StormCAD/SewerGEMS? is there tool for that (automatic) or should be done one by one after import the cad file catchment?
  • Mohammad,

The best tool for associating manholes to catchments as their outflow element is currently ModelBuilder. I have updated the link that Sushma posted above with steps for how you can do this:

    communities.bentley.com/.../17529.is-there-any-automatic-method-for-input-tc-or-assign-the-outflow-element-to-the-catchment-area-to-save-time

Please see the last section titled "Option for updating the Outflow elements"

I filed an enhancement for a feature that automatically associates catchments to their nearest outflow element to be considered for future versions of the software. The enhancement number is 186940.

  • May I suggest that it would be a handy tool to be able to split existing catchments directly within StormCAD? I realize this may be done by splitting them in CAD or GIS, but that is a degree of separation which involves a lot of extra steps, especially when designing. Generally, when coming up with a design, I am adding inlets to an existing system, which necessitates splitting catchments. This is an iterative process, and it would be so much faster to be able to do it quickly in StormCAD.
  • Hello Randy,

Currently, you can assign the catchment to be defined as multiple subareas. You can then use the Subareas collection field. The screenshot below shows where these properties area:

This would still be a single catchment and have only a single outflow element, but it may be useful for some purposes. I will put in a request for a feature to split catchments. If this is included, it will be in a future release of StormCAD.

    Scott

  • Hello Randy,

So you know, the developers are working on implementing a feature like this already. If testing is successful, it will likely be included in a future release of StormCAD.
