Hydraulic jumps and 1D hydraulic model

Dear Friends,

I have performed a 1D hydraulic model in HEC-RAS. The results show that hydraulic jumps frequently occur along the river. The channel is steep, but there are a lot of unauthorized construction next to the riverbanks and floodplain. I thought those constructions also help the hydraulic jumps to happen, but some researchers believe that I cannot be able to consider the effects of constructions on happening the hydraulic jumps based on 1D analysis, so in this case I should not mention the constructions as an effective factor on the hydraulic jumps in a research paper.

What is your idea?

Best regards,

Bahar

  • Bahar,

Can you provide a visual (diagram, photo, etc) so we can better understand what this "construction" looks like? Are these structures extending into the river, to the point of causing a noticeable constriction or change in the flow lines?

Perhaps you can run a model without the constructions to compare?
