Flow stored for a tank

The flow stored is the net inflow into the tanks in the simulation. If you have more flow out of the tanks than into them you'll get a negative number for the flow stored. This wiki explains more about the flow stored, flow supplied, and flow demand that are in the calculation summary.

Hi Mark! thank you very much. In a combination of the existing system with transmission mains, feeder mains, reservoirs, sumps, OHTs etc. I recall the reply by Tanay in communities.bentley.com/.../123669 that we need to calculate the Mass Balance Curve for each of the tanks and check the surplus or deficit for every tank; (This has to be done very easily in MS Excel and you would also like to check that the tank doesn't overflow or becomes empty).

I narrate the procedure for calibrating the transmission / feeder mains as follows:
1. Consider the sumps/ MBRs / OHTs of transmission main and feeder mains separately
2. Prepare the mass balance worksheets for each sump / MBR / tank separately with definite inflow and outflow depending upon the pumping hours and peak flows (if directly fed to the distribution network from transmission / feeder mains)
3. Use the data in Watergems model to find out the adequecy of the OHT / transmission & feeder mains
4. Under calculation summary we must not get negaitive flow stored and residual head not less than 3m at all junctions.

Please comment / correct the above steps to start calibration of existing infrastructure

If you goal is build your model and calibrate the model against known field data that you already have that's a good start. Making sure you enter all you data correctly for each element is a smart step to take.

I believe what Tanay meant was that you will need to make sure the tank size and elevations are entered correctly. He also mentioned not letting the tanks get empty, which is important too and could be accomplished using controls. If you're not familiar with creating controls this wiki article explains how to do that:

It is possible that you'll get a negative flow stored depending on what time step you are looking at in your model run, so I wouldn't pay as much attention to that as I would how closely the model simulates the results you're getting or expect out of the real world system.

A good way to monitor the residual head (pressure head) at your junction for a head less than 3 m is to create an alarm for that property. The wiki link below will explain how you can create a custom alert to let you know if the residual head property every goes below 3m.
