Muchas Gracias

    Hello,

The answer depends on the tank configuration. Assuming you're using HAMMER V8i or CONNECT Edition:

When "treat as junction" is set to "false", the initial liquid volume and full tank volume are values that you must enter, and the initial gas volume is derived as the difference between the two. When "treat as junction" is set to "true", only the initial gas volume field is entered, and the initial liquid volume is then determined based on that and the full tank volume that you enter. You must decide the ratio of gas to liquid (which also determines the relationship between pressure and flow and impacts how they change as conditions change during the transient simulation) There is no "correct" value to calculate and use for a given initial conditions, because these volumes in conjunction with the initial pressure basically determine how compressed the gas is. The basic equation for the gas law is PV=nrt and in HAMMER it is simplified to PV=K, where P = pressure, V = volume and K = constant.

More details are in this article:

    Modeling Reference - Hydropneumatic Tanks

If the gas in your tank is contained within a sealed bladder, choose "true" for "has bladder" and enter the desired preset / precharge pressure. Based on the preset pressure, tank size and initial conditions pressure, the initial volume of liquid and gas are calculated for you. The preset pressure is something you would need to decide on. A typical range may be between 5% and 80% of pipeline pressure, as per the above article. You can read more about using the preset pressure for a bladder tank here:

Entering Hydropneumatic tank gas preset pressure based on assumed initial bladder volume

The great thing about HAMMER is that you can set up multiple scenarios with different configurations (different ratio of gas to liquid volume, or different bladder preset pressures) and compare the transient results.

    Hola,

    Modeling Reference - Hydropneumatic Tanks

Entering Hydropneumatic tank gas preset pressure based on assumed initial bladder volume
