Pump-Turbine characteristics in suter form

i just have pump-turbine charactristics in 2 zone of operation: 1-turbine mode; 2-pump mode. how can i evaluate other 2 zone of operation(turbine dissipation and

pump dissipation) by using the data of pump mode and turbine mode

  • Hello Ali,

Are you saying that you have custom pump characteristics that you'd like to enter in HAMMER (as a custom Specific Speed) but that you only have data for the upper right (normal pump) and lower left (normal turbine) quadrants?

If you expect that your pump will only operate in the first quadrant (positive head, positive flow) and it remains at a constant speed during the transient simulation, you can select "Constant Speed - Pump Curve", then enter the first quadrant information in the pump definition. With this configuration, the pump definition will be followed during the transient simulation. If you expect that the operating point will remain in the Normal Turbine quadrant, you could model this with the turbine element, entering the characteristics by way of the Turbine Curve (for initial conditions) and the Specific Speed (transient simulation.)

If this is not an acceptable approach such as if you have a pump that could operate beyond a single quadrant, or a pump that changes speed during the transient simulation (such as with the Shut After Time Delay option), then you may need to enter the full 4 quadrant characteristics.

In this case, consider estimating the closest specific speed for your pump based on the equation mentioned in the help. This will provide the full four quadrant characteristics for your transient simulation. If unsure, consider trying a range of the available default specific speeds and check the sensitivity of the model results. If they do are not sensitive, it may be OK with the approximation of the closest default specific speed.

If this doesn't help, please elaborate on what you are trying to do.
