CivilStorm StormCAD SS4 64-bit with Office 32-bit...

Is there any reason not to run the SS4 64-bit versions of the water apps (CivilStorm, StormCAD, etc.) with 32-bit MS Office installed? Before, installers would detect Office 32-bit and cause a 32-bit installation. That is no longer the case. So, is there any reason I'd want to force it to install the 32-bit version instead? We are on Win 7 64-bit. I saw a wiki for one of the water apps that said it's independent of MS Office now and other posts that allude to it not mattering anymore, but wanted to get clarification.

Thanks!

  • There is no reason not to run the SS4 64-bit versions of CivilStorm, StormCAD, SewerCAD, SewerGEMS with 32-bit MS Office installed.  The software now uses a SQLite database instead of the Access database it previously used.  No reason to force the 32-bit version install either.

  • I agree with Terry for the most part, but there are one or two things that you should be aware of if you are going to use modelbuilder or SCADAConnect. You can read more about those issues in the wiki below, but they basically say that if you are going to import information from an excel spreadsheet or access database and you have a 32 bit version of Office installed that you will need to run the program as 32 bit in order to use these options. There are definitely workarounds for these options such as transferring your information into a source type that doesn't require use of these Microsoft components or simply running the executable for the 32 bit version, which, by default, can be found at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\SewerGEMS8", if you need to use either of these file types for the aforementioned tools. The name of the executable file is "SewerGEMS.exe".

    I hope that helps.

  • Thanks for the quick replies. I'm not sure if we have users using either modelbuilder or SCADAConnect, but at least we can just launch the x86 executable then.

  • Yes, you can and you'll only need to do that if they are using either of the formats listed above. In many cases users of the modelbuilder tool will be using DXF files or shapefiles, but there may be other case where you need to run the 32 bit version.
