Pump Properties!

Dear All,

I have some query regarding the pumps. My question was, how I am going to model a pump if it is on a dry well? the default one is a submersible?right? I am thinking, maybe there are some other ways to do it?

Thanks,

  • Hello,

In general, the pump will be attached to the wet well with a pressure pipe and to the pressure system with a pipe downstream. SewerCAD's Sample2.stsw shows a typical setup for pumps.

Pumps will also have controls on them. This will allow the pump turn on and off based on the water level of the wet well. If the wet well is dry, the water level would be lower than the "off" elevation of the pump, so the pump would not be on. However, once the wet well fills to the "on" elevation, the controls will turn the pump on. The sample model mentioned above has an example of controls as well.

Pumps need to be attached to the wet well with a link, so if the submersible pump you are thinking has no such connection, that is not a typical setup. However, it is possible to model a submersible pump. The following support solution applies to SewerCAD as well: communities.bentley.com/.../16108.modeling-a-submersible-pump.aspx

Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Mr. Scott,

Thanks to your answer. Follow-up question, meaning if the pump is on the dry well, there will be difference on its setup? For example is the elevation? If it is on the wet well, we are inputting base elevation of the well, If it is on a dry well,we will input the centerline of the pump?

    Thanks for your help.

  • For a drywell, the pipe leading to the pump would probably connect to the bottom or minimum level of the wetwell, but the pump itself could be at the same elevation as the bottom of the wetwell, or possibly up a little higher so it’s not sitting on the ground. Since there will be a pipe connected to the wet well and the pump, the elevation of the pump can simply be the elevation the pump is at in the field. The pipes can up set up to match the invert elevations of the nodes or you can enter your own invert elevation.

If this doesn't help, a diagram of what you are trying to model may be useful.

    Thanks,

    Scott
