Seed & Submodel

Hello

1-      What is difference between ‘Save’ and ‘Save to Seed...’? There is no mention about the difference in help document.

2-      Does ALL properties of an element export When a project is saved as a ‘submodel’?

Seed files are used for publishing the i-models. So if you want to publish an i-model you save the model as seed.

When you are exporting the model as submodel all the properties except the Element Symbology i.e. Color coding & the annotations get exported.

  • A seed file is like a template.  You can save to a seed a file that you want to use as a base for all new projects.  It has an .sts extension.

When you export to I-model, the software creates a .i.dgn file.  When exporting to an I-model you had the options of what elements to export.

When you do a 'Save', it is saving to the normal file format of a .wtg and .wtg.mdb or .wtg.sqlite file.

I could not get the difference between Save and Save to seed (exception wtg and sts extensions) yet. Would you explain more about?

  • If you are working on a project you have a .wtg and .wtg.mdb or .wtg.SQLite file that get saved when you do a File > Save. If you do a File > Save to Seed, it saves the project in a .wgs file. A seed file allows you to save project settings and data as a template. You can then reuse these settings/data while creating new project using the data from the previously saved seed file. When you start a new project with a seed file, you will then want to do a File > Save As to give the file a project name and save it in a working folder.

I know what you mentioned. Let me ask in another way: Is the only difference between Save (or Save As) and Save to Seed is that a seed file is an template? Then what is Template in WaterGEMS and what is template good for?
