Importing a Field with ModelBuilder from Autodesk Map

Hello

A Field in properties of an object (Tank) has been defined in Autodesk Map, as you see. It has three items (MAX, MIN and INI ele of the tank).

With ModelBuilder it has been imported into WaterGEMS, as you see too. But this field and it items has not been imported.

How can define a new Field in Autodesk Map and import it to model with ModelBuilder?

Actually, I mean something like below photo which has been cut from Help document:

  • The attributes available in Modelbuilder for a DXF are those that are directly part of the point, polyline or polygons in the DXF. It looks like you have block references associated with the tank points, which is probably why you don't see the attributes. I'm going to check with some of my colleagues on this to confirm.

With that said, typically the geometry of a network is of primary importance when importing a DXF, to avoid having to trace over it by hand. Often pipes of different diameter may be on separate layers, so prototypes are used to bring in each layer as a different diameter, without mapping any attributes in Modelbuilder. Node details such as elevations, pump curves, demands, tank elevations, etc are typically entered in manually after the basic pipe and node information is imported from the DXF.

I can not comprehend '...It looks like you have block references associated with the tank points.' I work with 'Autodesk Map' which you can define and build desired properties for an object as I did for a tank. I do not know what do you mean with 'block references'.

have a look to attached help page again and please tell me how 'base_eleva, minimu_EL & ...' was defined for Object (Tank)? Was it defined in AutoCad or Autodesk Map?

    I stay for your response.

  • It looks to me like you saved your AutoCAD file to DXF format, then tried to import that using ModelBuilder. However, a DXF file does not contain any of the AutoCAD Map GIS data.

One solution is to export from AutoCAD Map to Shapefile format, then import the Shapefile(s) using ModelBuilder. (Check the AutoCAD Map help for details on how to export to Shapefile.)

Those items (MAX_ele, MIN_ ele and ...) has been defined in ‘Autodesk Map’.
First question is fields ‘Field’ and ‘Property’ (attached photo) are shown in ModelBuilder when a *.dxf be selected. how can assign Field to Property for a *.dxf NOT a *.shp file?
Second is AutoCad can not make Properties items for an object. This is what Autodesk Map does. Does not it? Am I right?

  • Sim,

I don't quite understand your first question, but your DXF file will NOT include additional data (like tank elevations) - which is why it isn't the best choice of input when trying to build a model.

Your second question about AutoCAD is more suited to an Autodesk forum. I believe your comments are correct, but I am not an AutoCAD expert.
