CivilStorm Gutter Modeling

I am new to civilstorm and wondering how to setup gutter conveyance.  It appears as though you automatically have an upstream and downstream catch basin.  I was hoping there is another way to do it without all of the extra catch basins.  The extra catch basins make the reporting a little unruley.

  • Could you please elaborate it bit more?
Do you mean setting up different gutter size/type other than the section of catch basin by any chance?
Or you mean can any other element be there as upstream and downstream node instead of catch basin for gutter?

  • The catchbasin element represents a location where you have an inlet opening. Some of the upstream gutter flow may be captured by the inlet and some may bypass and continue down the next gutter. As Sushma suggested, explaining a bit more would help.

  • Sorry about the confusion. In the system I was laying out all of the catch basins are located in a sag condition. So when I model the gutter I ended up having a catch basin at the high point and one on the downstream end (sag inlet). I was hoping to find a way to avoid having a catch basin on the high point.
  • Thanks for the clarification. My initial thought is that if you have two in-sag inlets in a row, you may not need to model the gutter between them as a gutter link element. The gutter cross section is still defined in the catchbasin node itself (at the actual in-sag inlet locations) so you can see the depth and spread. Since there would be no bypass flow in this case, the gutter link may not be necessary (and also no need to insert any extra catchbasins at high points.) You can connect the contributing areas (catchment elements) directly to the in-sag catchbasins that they would drain to.
