SewerGEMS SELECTseries 5

Some folks have been asking about the upcoming release of SewerGEMS (and its sister products CivilStorm, SewerCAD and StormCAD). It looks as if it's about two months away (although you should always be skeptical of release dates from Product Managers).

Our focus in this release has been on better compatibility with stormwater road design. This is partly driven by a major new release of our Open Roads products which integrate the Haestad sewer solvers with Bentley's road products. I realize that the response from some of you will be "it's about time". Better late than never. This brings a lot of benefits with it including the ability to perform hydraulic design calculations in a 3-D graphical model. We're calling this enhancement SUDA (Subsurface Utility Design and  Analysis).

From a hydraulic solver standpoint, users will be able to hook up laterals from catch basins without the need to split the gravity conduit into two or more conduits at the tap. The tapping point can be place on a conduit and the flows will be accounted for without making the hydraulic model bulky. This is very nice when the user has a bunch of catch basins and laterals along a street. Only one conduit is needed in the street.

We have also made some improvements in the way the models use elevations from digital terrain models when designing conduits. No longer will the user need to assume that the ground slope is constant between manholes.

Feature development is pretty much done and we're in the certification and documentation process. We won't ship until all is ready but it won't be too long.
