Branched flow pumping model

I'm new to WaterCAD, and I'm trying to set a model to split flow to two separate water storage impoundments.  I need to get 1,380 gpm to each impoundment, and these are supplied by one source (reservoir).  I currently have my model set up with a supply reservoir, one pump and one pipe into a junction where the flow is split to into two separate pipes.  At the end of these pipes I have hydrants with a demand value set at 1,380 gpm.

Is this a correct way of setting this up?  I would also like to add PSVs to automatically control the flow.  Is there a way to solve for the PSV set point pressure within WaterCAD?

Sorry for all the questions!

Thanks

  • The way that water models work is that you design the system and it will perform the hydraulic calculations to show you if it will work.

In your case, I would put the tanks in the model at the elevation you want and then see at what rate they will fill. The elevation of the water level in the tank sis important and I would encourage you to do extended period simulations for different demand conditions. You can then adjust pipe sizes, or insert control valves to achieve what you want.
