WaterCAD ModelBuilder error

I have been working in WaterCAD on my computer consistently for several months with no problems. However, recently when trying to upload point elevations in ModelBuilder using the Excel 2007 (12.0) data source type, I receive the following error:

This started occurring after I had some software updates, including moving from Office 2013 to Office 365. Could that be involved? How can I fix this problem?

  • Hello,

Try opening the 32-bit version of WaterCAD and using ModelBuilder in that. This is done by browsing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\WaterCAD and doubleclicking on the file "WaterCAD.exe". This is the 32-bit version of WaterCAD. Open ModelBuilder and see if you can select the source file then.

    Regards,
    Scott
  • There is a link to a similar message that can occur when using the 64-bit version of WaterCAD. Information on that message is here: communities.bentley.com/.../9388.modelbuilder-error-microsoft-access-database-engine-2010-64-bit-is-required-to-access-this-data-source

The same basic solution information may work in your case as well.

  • Scott-
I tried importing using the 32-bit version, and that still gave me the same error. Do you think reinstalling could be a possible solution?

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

  • Hello,

You may want to try reinstalling WaterCAD, just to be safe. If you do this, I would recommend a clean reinstallation using the steps found at the following link: communities.bentley.com/.../19493.how-do-i-perform-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-of-the-hydraulic-and-hydrology-products

If this doesn't help, is the file type a .XSLX file? If so, could you please provide a copy of the file to us, so we can do some testing? There are two options for sharing your model files on Communities. If you would like the files to be visible to other members, compress the files into a zip file and upload them as an attachment using the ‘Advanced Reply editor’ before posting. If your data is confidential, you can follow the instructions in the link below to send it to us via Bentley Sharefile. Files uploaded to Sharefile can only be viewed by Bentley.

Please post here with the name of the file so we know that it is available.

    Scott
  • The error seems to indicate that the appropriate Access Database Engine may not be installed on your computer. This is included with the WaterCAD installation as a prerequisite, but if it were uninstalled afterwards, it could cause problems like this. Perhaps the Office 365 uninstalled these components? I would suggest checking under "Programs and Features" to see if Access Database Engine 2007 (32-bit) or 2010 (64-bit) is installed. If not, reinstalling WaterCAD may indeed help. This is eluded to at the end of the article that Scott previously provided:

"There are also cases where we have seen a the 2007 Microsoft Access database engine be removed from the computer by someone for some reason. This can also cause a problem because removal of the 2007 version of the Microsoft Access database engine can break the 2010 version. What you can do in order to fix this is download the 2007 Access database engine from the Microsoft website and install it manually. You also have the option to uninstall WaterCAD and reinstall it if that is easier for you."
