StormCad running Error during validation

I am running StormCad SS 4 in Microstation SS2 with a large, but simple system of catch basins, manholes and pipes. All ran fine until I had to add some catch basins mid pipe and change other catch basins to manholes. now the model will not validate. I get an error not found in Help; "Grate Width must be greater than zero". I am only using the inlet catalog library and have not changed anything from when the model ran until now. I have checked the library and it is fine. I cannot find grate width anywhere else. Has anyone run into this and found an answer? I have opened the StormCad model in the stand alone version and tried validating it and got a different error; "A software error has occurred...". I have closed and opened the program several times and restarted my computer a couple times and still get the same error. I have a service ticket in with Bentley, but have not heard back yet.  Thanks.

  • Please provide your project files. There are two options for sharing your model files on Communities. If you would like the files to be visible to other members, compress the files into a zip file and upload them as an attachment using the ‘Advanced Reply editor’ before posting. If your data is confidential, you can follow the instructions in the link below to send it to us via Bentley Sharefile. Files uploaded to Sharefile can only be viewed by Bentley.

Do you receive the error when using StormCAD as a standalone platform (ie. not integrated with MicroStation)?

  • I am having this same issue as well.. did it ever get resolved?
  • Hello Kim,

This thread from 2015 had two different issues listed. I assume you're referring to the first issue with the "Grate width must be greater than zero."

Most likely the model was never submitted for investigation. Here are some general thoughts. If they do not help, or if the issue you're experiencing is the generic "software error has occurred", please upload the model per the previous reply and provide the file name via a reply to this thread. Be sure to compress just the .STSW and .STSW.SQLITE files.

Validate the model, then in the user notification window, right click on the message in question, choose to select all elements of the same type. Open the flextables manager, right click on the catchbasin table and choose to open on selection. In the filtered table, add the "inlet type" and "Inlet" field. Confirm that all inlet types are set to catalog, then for all unique inlet types, navigate to the Inlet Catalog and check the Grate Width field.

If the grate width is non-zero in the catalog, try re-selecting the inlet for each catchbasin. You can do this in bulk using global edits in the catchbasin table.

It may also be worth upgrading, as SELECTseries 4 is several versions old. There is always the chance that an improvement was made to make the solution to this problem more clear.

If this does not help, please provide a copy of the model for review.

  • Jesse-

The product at this point does not seem to finish “validating.”  This seems to be some sort of program issue, as it would validate on earlier runs.  I can submit a model.

    Thanks,
