How to reference a Storm Event with a date/time in simulation options

Hello,

I just recently imported a SWMM5 model into SewerGEMS.  The model has rainfall data for 2.5 years (1/1/2012 - 5/31/2015).  SewerGEMS imported the rainfall timeseries as a Storm Event with a start time of -8,472 hours and end time of 21,455 hours.  How is that referenced in the calculation options?  Basically, what would I set the start and end date to if I wanted to run a simulation for just April 2013?

  • Okay, looks like the rainfall is somewhat independent of simulation start and end time. Whatever you set the start time to, it will just reference hour 0.00 in the rainfall time series. So if you want to jump around and view a certain storm in a typical year, you would have to reset the entire time series so hour 0.00 is at the start of the storm you want.

    Here's all you should have to do. In your calculation options (Analysis > Calculation Options) you set the "Simulation Start Date" to 4/1/2013 and leave the "Simulation Start Time" as 12 am. Next you set the "Duration" to 30 days (720 hours). Since you're running the simulation for so long you'll want to set a reasonable output increment and calculation time step. This setup assumes that you're using the SewerGEMS Implicit solver. If you're using the Explicit (SWMM) solver, which works best better for a long term simulation, your calculation options are going to be setup similarly. In the case of the Explict solver along with the "Simulation Start Time" and "Simulation Start Date" you'll also need to make sure to set the "Report Start Time" and "Report Start Date". You also have the option to set the "Duration Type" to "End Date \ End Time" (4/30/2013) (which might be easier for you) or "User Defined Duration".
