Importing Elevations from Google Earth

Hi

Is it possible in WaterGEMS to import Elevations from Google Earth to model?

I did not find about it in Help document.

Mike

  • There isn't a direct Google earth import option, so you'll need to get it into one of the available format seen in the dropdown in the Terrain Extractor (Trex) or Terrain Model tools. I'm not familiar with the available export options in Google Earth or other tools currently available to export to a supported format (I found this from a quick search), but I'll look into this and get back to you.

Note that you might be better off trying another source like USGS, though it depends on what location you're interested in. Where is the location of the terrain data that you're looking for?

  • Note that you can also import an image from Google Earth, which you can add as a background layer. I'll look into how any Terrain layer in Google Earth works with this.

See related help topic "Using a Google Earth View as a Background Layer to Draw a Model"

    and this article:

How do I import a Google Earth image so it lines up with my model?
