Pump Lead/Lag on Even/Odd Days

I have 2 well pumps that serve the same pressure zone.  The pumps are rotated lead/lag on even/odd days.  One pump runs on even numbered days and the other on odd days.

How can I setup a control scheme to do this?  I don't see anything in the controls to be able to accomplish this other than time from start but then I would have to setup multiple controls to turn pumps on/off after 24/48/72/96 hrs.

Thanks

  • Hello,

You need to setup the controls for the pumps in combination to achieve this.

Here is a way to achieve multiple controls to turn pumps on/off after 24/48/72/96 hrs, assuming two pumps running parallel.

The two simple controls take care of the initial (time zero) conditions and then the other two controls with composite control conditions swap the pump status every 24 hours.

Here is the graph of flow through pumps with, one pump running for 24 hrs, then the other.

Are the two pumps having the same pump definition?

  • This article in our Wiki offers another option, involving the use of pipe status as a variable:

Controls for alternating or cycling between multiple pumps

I've incorporated Sushma's time-based suggestion as another option.
