Modelling Rising main with shallow Tubewells and intermediate pumping stations

Hello,

Guys i am modelling a lengthy rising main, shallow tubewells extract water from ground near the canal and supply to intermediate pumping station. intermediate pumping station consists of ground storage tank and pumps. then pumps deliver water to next  extracting point. but the problem is this, HGL of pumps coming out -1,300,000 when its extracting water from ground storage tank and if  i model this tank as reservoir the HGL line is in limits. i want to know that can i model intermediate pumping station as ground storage tanks  and pumps or i have to model it as reservoir and pumps.

  • Hello Suhail,

I have moved your question to the Haestad | Hydraulics and Hydrology forum.

What Bentley product are you using? I will assume it is WaterCAD or WaterGEMS.

If you're seeing a strange number for your results, most likely the model is unbalanced or otherwise unstable. Check the User Notifications list for any red messages. If the model is unbalanced, the problem will need to be addressed first before the results can be checked. Here is an article with some general guidance on how to do this:

    http://communities.bentley.com/products/hydraulics___hydrology/w/hydraulics_and_hydrology__wiki/8769

Based on your description, one thing you may want to check first is the percent full of your tanks. If the tank next to the pump in question is becoming full or empty, the program assumes a built-in altitude valve closes the adjacent pipe, in which case the network could become disconnected from a boundary condition. This can cause odd hydraulic grade results since the model has no way to accurately calculate them without a boundary.

If this does not help, please include a copy of your model (zip your .WTG and .WTG.SQLITE files). There are two options for sharing your model on Communities, whichever you choose please be sure to zip your files first. The first option is to attach the zip file containing your model to your reply on the forum using the Advanced Reply Editor (you'll find the link below and to the right of the reply box). If your data is confidential please use the instructions in the link below to send it via Bentley Sharefile. Files uploaded to Sharefile can only be viewed by Bentley employees. Please be sure to reply on this thread with the name of the file after it has been uploaded.
