Converging multiple points of interest (outfall nodes) into 1 overall point of interest.

Good afternoon,

I've been searching around and haven't been able to find anything on this, so I was wondering if maybe someone here could help. Is there a way to have multiple outfall nodes converge into 1 outfall node?  That way, when running a scenario and getting the master summary report output from pondpak, it has data for not only the overall area, but also the "subset" nodes.

As for now, I have 1 outflow node, with 2 bypass areas and a pond flowing into it. So now I'm trying to have the pond and 1 of the bypass areas flowing into the same node, and then having that node flow into the overall outflow node for the area.  That way I have peak flow and volume data for the pond/bypass area, as well as peak flow and volume data for the entire project area, which would include both bypass areas and the pond.

Thanks for your help!

Larry

  • Hello Larry,

You might want to look into using the junction element. PondPack's "Bobcat.ppc" sample file is a good reference for that. The sample files are typically found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\PondPack8\Samples.

The junction can be used to bridge multiple link element types. If you right-click on the junction element, you can graph the flow over time as well as the total volume, similar to the results you see with an outfall.

Basically, you would want to replace the outfalls at your subarea with a junction element. You would need to connect the junction to the overall outfall for the entire system with another link type, like a channel or conduit. Once completed, you should be able to see the intermediate results at the junction as well as the overall system results at the outfall.

If that doesn't help, please give us a screenshot of the model as you currently have it. It may also be useful to have a copy of the model itself. There are two options for sharing your model files on BE Communities. If you would like the files to be visible to other members, compress the files into a zip file and upload them as an attachment using the ‘Advanced Reply editor’ before posting. If your data is confidential, you can follow the instructions in the link below to send it to us via Bentley Sharefile. Files uploaded to Sharefile can only be viewed by Bentley.

If you upload the model via Sharefile, please post here so we know that it is available.
