Overview

The purpose of this article is to discuss the meanings of the different types of colored messages in the User Notifications dialogue as well as the in calculation summary.

Colored Categories

There are five different types of colors used within User Notifications and the Calculation Summary: red, yellow/Orange, blue and green.

  1. Green – Computation of model is complete without problems.
  2. Red - A critical data-entry problem that prevents the model from being calculated.
  3. Orange /Yellow - Indicates warnings.
  4. Blue - Informational message.

For user notifications

  • If the run obtains either a yellow or green light, then the hydraulic model runs and this is not a problem.
  • A blue light is an informational message, a yellow light indicates warnings, and a red light indicates issues.
  • You must fix any errors identified by red circles before the software can compute.
  • Problems identified by orange circles are warnings that do not prevent the computation of the model but are things you will likely want to check
  • As an example, in the screenshot below the notifications can be seen for the red & blue messages in the network such as disconnected demands & negative pressure.

For the Calculation Summary

  • If the run obtains a green light, then it means that the calculations are successful with no problems.
  • Yellow, orange or blue color indicates informational messages or warnings.
  • The red color indicates problems in the model, which you should focus on to stabilize your model. Typically results are invalid for red timesteps.
  • For example in the screenshot below the red error message indicates disconnected demands, yielding invalid results.

Engineering Validation

Engineering Validation was introduced starting with CONNECT Edition Update 1 of the storm and sewer products. This allows you to generate custom notifications on certain conditions in your model.

The colors in Engineering Validation are similar, with the main difference being that none of them prevent the run from computing. The type and color is based on your preference:

  • Information - violations will be colored blue to indicate the message is informational in nature
  • Warning - violations will be colored yellow to indicate the message is a warning
  • Error - violations will be colored red to indicate a critical issue
