Element selection in the AutoCAD environment (OSNAP)

Product(s):WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, HAMMER, SewerGEMS, SewerCAD, StormCAD, CivilStorm
Version(s):10.XX.XX.XX, 08.11.XX.XX
Area:Layout and Data Input

Problem

When using one of the above products in the AutoCAD environment element selection is not working as expected.

Solution

Scenario 1: When adding an element to a graph one or more adjacent elements are selected.

Most likely you have OSNAP turned on. To turn it off, press the F3 key.

Scenario 2: When trying to place a junction in a specific location, it snaps to an existing junction nearby. This happens with OSNAP turned on or off.

The automatic snap will occur when the pipe layout command is used. It will not snap if the user starts with a simple junction then moves to the pipe layout.

Scenario 3: With the OSNAP active, if you try to place a catch basin, it does not snap to the end of a line. After making the OSNAP active, the snap disables after each use.

This issue has been resolved in the latest cumulative patch for the 08.11.05.58 build of the Storm/Sewer products.

Scenario 4: OSNAP doesn't work in integrated environment but works well in AutoCAD alone.

This issue is related to certain default OSNAP settings which can be tweaked to get this working in an integrated environment.

1. In snap settings of AutoCAD check on all snap settings (Under Object Snap Tab > Select All)

This will ensure that all the grips (midpoint, nearest, perpendicular, intersection etc.) are active for snap.

2. In the same Tab ensure that the "Object Snap On" and "Object Snap Tracking On" options are checked

3. Under the "Snap and Grid" tab, reduce the "Snap X spacing". The "Snap Y spacing" will automatically take the same value if "Equal X & Y spacing is checked on"

If the X and Y spacing is low, the accuracy of snapping is improved. Also, it becomes easier to track intermediate points.

Additional Options:

If needed, the model could be opened in the product's standalone environment to perform the desired task, then reopened in the AutoCAD environment.
