Changing the license file from an old desktop to a new one

Hi,

I work in a architectural office in Portugal and I've contacted you before for similar reasons. We've bought a new workstation to replace an old one and so I need some help with changing the old license file in order for it to work in the new one. I'm sending you the license file from the old machine and also the system informations from the new one.

I'd really appreciate your help with this.

Best regards,

Bruno

  • Only the system information file for the new workstation was attached to the forum post, unfortunately. However, based on your description, the license appears to have been checked out to the old workstation. Please perform the following steps to "check in" or return the license:

    1. Open the License Management Tool included with your Bentley product on the old workstation.
    2. Select Options from the Tools menu, and ensure that a server name and site activation key are present. If entered, click the OK button.
    3. Click the License Checkout tab.
    4. Select any licenses listed in the bottom pane, and click the CheckIn button.

Then on the new workstation, please perform the following steps to "check out" or assign the license:

    1. Open the License Management Tool included with your Bentley product on the new workstation.
    2. Select Options from the Tools menu, and ensure that a server name and site activation key are present. These settings should be the same as the old workstation. Then click the OK button.
    3. Click the License Checkout tab.
    4. Select your product license in the top pane, and click the CheckOut button.
    5. Enter an email address and version number in the window that appears. Press the Enter key to enable the OK button, and click it.
    6. A Checkout Status window will indicate whether the operation was successful. If an error indicates that the license has already been used for the day, you must wait until the following day to assign a non-SELECT license to a new workstation. The following support solution provides more information about moving non-SELECT licenses.

The following support solution includes steps for checking out and checking in licenses with screenshots, if needed.

If neither workstation has your server name and site activation key, please submit your old XML license file using Communities Secure File Upload, and post an update in this forum thread once submitted. I or one of my colleagues will examine it to assist you further.

  • Hi,7485.posto09.txt

I’m sorry, I had already read that on the Bentley support forum but I don’t have that License Manage Tool with my Powerdraft…

    Isn’t there any other way?

I’m sending you the new workstation information file.

    Best regards,

  • After further research, I determined that you are licensing MicroStation PowerDraft V8 2004 which is licensed differently than later versions. I have generated a license file and sent it to you from registration@bentley.com. Please confirm whether it activates your PowerDraft on the POSTO09.
