(Newin SS3) Cached Visible Edge Display

Introduction Drawings and sheets containing references to dynamic views are updated immediately when model geometry is changed (hence the name dynamic views). However, there are times when a project’s construction set needs to be frozen for a certain revision while the underlying model is still evolving. This can be achieved by switching the references from Dynamic mode to Cached mode. As the name suggests, Cached mode caches the rendered graphics...

Is it just me or has anyone elese that actuall does proper deatiling recognosed the complete deficientcy of the new version. I have had this argument before back then it was rectified when they first tried to introduce this type of update. My concern is when doing a proper hidden line, you know the one you use to make full detailed drawings for manufacture ( the type dopey architects don't understand or care about these days). While hey have improved...

How can I create a 3D PDF when printing with Property Publishing?

With the release of MicroStation V8i SS3 you can publish non-graphical business items to a 3D PDF document. These business items appear as objects in Adobe Reader’s Model Tree. By default, business items are not included in the published 3D PDF document. You must take additional steps to include the business items. To include business items in a 3D PDF document use the 3D Plotting Options dialog. To include a subset of the business items contained...

MicroStation SS3 now supports Design Scripts

With the release of MicroStation SELECTseries 3, the Print dialog and Print Organizer interfaces now support using design scripts for print resymbolization. Design scripts were previously used in InterPlot in the IPLOT dialog and InterPlot Organizer interfaces. Design scripts are ASCII files that contain instructions for resymbolizing the printed output of design files. The instructions are contained in statements within the design script which are...

(New in SS3) Discipline and Purpose Properties for Saved Views

MicroStation V8 i (SELECTseries 3) introduces two new properties to classify Dynamic Views and Drawings - Discipline and Purpose. For a large, multi-discipline infrastructure project, it is conceivable for you to have 100’s if not 1000’s of Dynamic Views and Drawings. In this scenario, Discipline and Purpose properties allow that additional layer of granularity to help you filter the Dynamic Views and Drawings so they are manageable and...

Using MicroStation variables in Print border comments

Placing needful information in the border area of each of your plots can prove to be very useful. The name of the design file and/or the current date/time your plots are submitted can be printed on each plot. For any of these options to work, the border must be “activated” (turned on). This can be done in several ways. It can be activated on a plot-by-plot basis, by simply checking the “ Print Border ” box under Settings>Print...

(New in SS3) Hypermodeling - Annotations in 3D

Gone are the days when in a design model you could just view a model geometry and had to traverse to the sheet and drawing models each time you want to view the dimensions, annotations and other details. Now with hypermodels, you can place callouts in 3D design model and also view sheet graphics in a 3D design model, in place, automatically. This makes drawings easier to understand and interpret. The general workflow to use callouts in a project is...

(New in SS3) Drawing Seeds in DGN Libraries

The process of creating drawings and sheets is a complex operation since it involves several subsystems. The outcome is effectively a chain of objects as follows: Clip Volume > Saved View > Drawing Model > Reference Attachment in Drawing Model > Sheet Model > Reference Attachment in Sheet Model > Drawing Title. The following poster describes these objects and their relationships. In order to comply with your company’s CAD standards...

    (New in SS3) Mini toolbars

A Mini toolbar is a type of context menu that is automatically shown when you hold the cursor over a marker or a callout. The Mini toolbar provides easy access to most used tools without requiring to right-click. When you hold the cursor over a marker or a callout, the Mini toolbar appears semi-transparent. Then if you point on the Mini toolbar it becomes solid and you can select an icon on it. Mini toolbar for Callouts The Mini toolbar for callouts...

    (New in SS3) Markers

In MicroStation V8 i (SELECTseries 3), a very useful feature called Markers is included. Many times saved views, links, and mark-ups become difficult to identify in a model with complex geometry and many annotations. To make these items more recognizable, Markers are displayed wherever saved views, links, or markups are placed. A Marker is basically a transient icon that stands out of the normal geometry in a model and is easy to recognize. In MicroStation...

How to redirect where Microstation looks for references

I am very new to Microstation and I feel like I've been thrown into the deep end before being allowed to learn to doggie paddle. I've been given a 13-year old drawing set done in Microstation and I am trying to figure out if there is an easy way to reconnect it all to make it legible and eventually make changes to it. The References were not attached using relative paths I've queried this site about changing reference attachment paths...

Modify values in an existing Print Set

You can modify various output settings for existing Print Definitions that already exist in a Print Set. For example, if a Print Definition was created using 8.5” x 11” as the Paper Size and you now want your output to be 11” x 17”, double-click on the Paper Size value for that Print Definition in the Print Set and select the new value from the drop-down list provided. If changing values like Paper Size or Scale, you might...

The Raster Quality Factor and the Rasterized Quality Factor settings are found in the PDF.pltcfg, Printer.pltcfg and the Pscript.pltcfg print driver configuration files. In the Hpglrtl.pltcfg printer driver configuration file, the Raster Quality Factor setting is called Raster DPI and the Rasterized Quality Factor is called Rasterized DPI . The Raster Quality Factor is the ratio of printer driver resolution to raster resolution, as a percentage. That...

Does anyone know the VBA command to display the coordinates, or even a keyin? My plan, is to incorporate this all in a GUI for the users to choose what they want and then it gets setup. Thank you
