This blog pertains to MicroStation V8i SELECTSeries 1 and later. When you want to create a saved view, you typically arrange the active view window the way you want to, and then start the Create Saved View tool. But there are cases in which a saved view seed is used to pre-specify certain settings of new saved views. This blog is going to talk about it. The settings inherited from saved view seeds include, clip volume settings, view attributes and...

As mentioned in a previous blog, Saved Views are the center of universe for sheet composition . Saved views act as cameras of your model and enable you to invoke views of interest as well as place them on sheets. Among other things, it stores information about viewing range and orientation. There’s a quick and easy way to display this information. In the Saved Views dialog, just turn on Show toggle. Saved view’s boundary is displayed as...

PokeItSelector & PokeItViewer are MicroStation VBA applications that are used to select or display elements based on their attributes, such as level, color, line style, etc. The filter criterion is specified from a source element (or elements) rather than from a list in a dialog box: For more information on these FREE applications, including download instructions, please visit the Grimoire Tech website .

MicroStation V8i offers a lot of new features to help with drawing and sheet composition. These features are grouped under the broad heading of Dynamic Views. In this blog, I am going to describe some simple ways to gradually upgrade your dataset to make use of some of these new features. Create Saved Views When possible, create saved views of your model and attach them as references on sheets. Saved views have a lot of power and flexibility to modify...

Every construction document set uses some kind of symbolic annotation to mark drawings in order to navigate from one sheet to another. Common scenarios include cutting a building section or taking a detail of a small area or getting a full view of a building from outside. For doing all this, different types of standard annotation symbols are used. In MicroStation we have different types of symbols for different purposes and we call them Detailing...

Drawing titles is a physical representation of drawing areas of a sheet. If you create drawings on sheets by attaching references, then drawing title is a physical representation of a reference attachment. It also helps as a navigation aid to find the sheet on which a given view is attached. A typical drawing title consists of four fields, as shown in this example. Inside the bubble, there is "Drawing Identifier" field on top and "Sheet...

For example, if a .pset file is open, and one of the design files is open in MicroStation and data is added to the open file - a preview in Print Organizer may not show the new geometry. A common practice is to perform an “Update from design file” in the Advanced tab, but the geometry will still not show in the preview. Is this a Works As Designed? Because Print Organizer uses a worker process (second instance of MicroStation in the background...

While working on a project, suppose you want to renumber all the sheets, what do you do? Go to each file containing sheet models -> Open Model Properties dialog for each sheet -> Change the Sheet Number field. This is the manual way of renumbering each sheet. If you have a large number of sheets, this becomes cumbersome. There is an automatic way to do this in Project Explorer, using the Sheet Renumber tool. The First step in sheet renumbering...
