How can a Faro *.fls file be opened by MicroStation

Background

The Faro *.fls file format is a point cloud format that will not open directly in MicroStation, instead it needs to be converted to a format that is supported by the 'Point Tools' tool.

Steps to Accomplish

 

1. Open the design in which the contents of the *.fls file is to be attached.

2. Open the Point Clouds dialog ( File > Point Clouds )

3. From the Point Clouds dialog select File > Convert and change the Files of Type: to *.fls or all files. Browse to and select the *.fls file to be opened ( Converted )

4. Select Open and change any settings required ensuring under the Action heading to choose Yes to Attach to the opened file.

5. Select OK and the file will be converted to a *.pod file and attached to the dgn as a Point Cloud.
