Note - this only applies to MicroStation V8 XM Edition 08.09.02.52 upgrade to MicroStation V8 XM Edition 08.09.02.77.
It is now possible to update an existing MicroStation version with a newer version that contains changes to existing functionality and/or adds new enhancements.
When installing on a workstation with MicroStation V8 XM Edition Commercial Release v08.09.02.52 already installed, MicroStation V8 XM Edition v08.09.02.77 acts as a Minor Upgrade. This means that it will not disturb any customizations that you have already done to your current MicroStation v08.09.02.52 configuration.
If you wish to have a completely clean install of MicroStation v08.09.02.77, you must first uninstall MicroStation V8 XM Edition v08.09.02.52.
To begin, when you download and run the installer for MicroStation V8 XM Edition, you will see two options for installing the product.
Download the new version and run the executable. You will be prompted with an installation choice. Select the Extract and install installation package option. This will automatically run and complete the installation.
Download the newer version and run the executable. You will be prompted with an installation choice. Select the Extract and install installation package option. This will automatically run and update the original version loaded on your computer.
For Administrative users: There is the option to download the newer version and use an MSI type upgrade. Run the executable, and when you are prompted with an installation choice, select the Extract installation package only option. Browse for the MicroStation.MSI file. Then package and deliver this file to update the original version loaded on your computers.
Note: With MicroStation V8 XM Edition 08.09.02.52 or higher, you also have the choice of installing multiple versions on the same computer (we recommend this installation option for testing purposes only) as multiple versions are not able to be updated. Only the original version will be updated.
If you are installing a second build (that is different than the original version) on the same computer, use the Extract installation package only option. This will give you a choice to select either the VBS or the MSI file.
Select the VBS for installations of additional product versions for testing purposes. These additional installations will not be able to be upgraded in the future.
