Displaying All Configuration Variables

 Product:MicroStation
 Version:CONNECT, 2023
 Environment:N\A
 Area:Configuration
 Subarea:General

The Situation

Would you like to know the path that MicroStation is using to locate a WorkSet’s DGN files?
Or maybe you need to verify the path of the local preferences directory.
These tasks are accomplished by viewing the value of the configuration variables _USTN_WORKSETDGNS and _USTN_HOMEPREFS. Both variables are considered “hidden” variables, and by default MicroStation does not show hidden variables in the Configuration Variables dialog.

Solution

Display all configuration variables in the Configuration Variables dialog.

You can display all of the pre-defined configuration variables in the Configuration Variable dialog, including hidden variables by setting the configuration variable _USTN_DISPLAYALLCFGVARS = 1. This can be particularly useful if your role is that of an Administrator or you are a member of your organization’s CADD Support Team.

Set the value of the configuration variable: _USTN_DISPLAYALLCFGVARS

  1. Go to File > Settings > Configuration > Configuration Variables.

  2. In the Configuration Variables dialog, click New.

  3. In the Variable field, enter _USTN_DISPLAYALLCFGVARS.

  4. In the New Value field, enter 1.

  5. Click OK.

  6. An Alert dialog is displayed, stating the current value of this variable. Click OK.

  7. In the Configuration dialog, click OK.

  8. Again, an Alert dialog is displayed. Click Yes to save changes to the configuration file, closing the Configuration Variables dialog.

When you return to the Configuration Variables dialog, you will see many additional configuration variables displayed that start with "_...". These are the hidden configuration variables.

Administration tip: _USTN_DISPLAYALLCFGVARS can be set as a Windows environment variable, very useful for administrators who are working with or testing multiple applications and/or installations.
