Item #1:

Could you please explain us how the number of nodes is counted in the program?!

Answer:

Please see the following conversion from AutoPIPE to PULS.

Valve: AutoPIPE = 3, Puls =2
Bend: AutoPIPE = 3, Puls =1
Tee: AutoPIPE = 2, Puls =3

When importing AutoPIPE models into PULS, support nodes are removed to allow import of larger models. Maximum number of nodes supported in PULS is limited to 1000 for PULS Option 3 and 400 for other versions.

Item 2:

The following is displayed when exporting shaking forces:

 ---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
Failed to export the shaking force file: Overflow
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Answer:

During the creation of the HMF file using File> Export> Shaking Forces, for some models the program may crash if the Analyze> Force direction command shows the AutoPIPE axes to be zero vectors.

A new enhancement (CAE-CR-7856) has been added to a check for zero cosines when using File> Export forces.

It is unknown what causes 0 direction cosines in some models.

Workaround,  if direction cosines are zeroes, set them to unit vectors by using "Edit> Shaking Forces".

Item #3:

The following is displayed when importing a model from AutoPIPE:

length does not appear to be correct

Failed to open file

does not belong in the set of nodes

What is the problem and how to avoid / fit?

Answer:

Open AutoPIPE model, select Tools> Model Consistency check.

A report will be generated and displayed on screen. Any and all warnings related to piping geometry must be fixed before exporting to PULS.

Example:

Therefore, all reducer issues in this example model must be fixed before exporting the file to PULS.

The goal is to fixed / reduce the number of warnings in AutoPIPE until the following is displayed when running this command:

Item #4:

What information is exported from AutoPIPE to PULS:

Answer:

Please see the following AutoPIPE help section: Help > Contents> Search Tab> enter "PULS" (include the quotes), press List Topics button, double click on the selected topic from the list provided to see more information.

AutoPIPE's piping geometry and pipe property information can be exported from AutoPIPE into PULS

Item #5:

What information is exported from PULS to AutoPIPE:

Answer:

Please see the following PULS help section: Help > Contents> Search Tab> enter "AutoPIPE" (include the quotes), press List Topics button, double click on the selected topic from the list provided to see more information.

The shaking force can be exported from PULS into AutoPIPE.

Item #6:

How to import / export information from PULS to newer versions of AutoPIPE:

Answer:

As of Jan 2020, from PULS help information:

PULS will be able to read AutoPIPE models that are saved in NTL (text) format. PULS can import NTL files with version 1.1 and lower....

Question: What version of AutoPIPE generates an v.1.1 NTL file?

Answer: AutoPIPE 8.9 generates a v1.1 NTL file.

See WIKI here for list of NTL versions created by various versions of AutoPIPE. When using a version of AutoPIPE that cannot generate an NTL v1.1 file (ex. 12.02.00.14), use the following procedure:

a. Open the model in AutoPIPE v9.0 or higher.

b. Save model as v8.9 DAT

b. Open model in AutoPIPE v8.9 and save the file as AutoPIPE Batch (*.NTL) which generates the NTL file in the correct version format.

c. Open NTL v1.1 or lower in PULS.
