Lap Joint Stub End Symbol Issue in OpenPlant Isometrics Manager

Applies To
Product(s):OpenPlant Isometrics Manager
Version(s):08.11.11.87 (SS6)
Environment: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64 bit)
Area: Processing
Subarea: Component Symbol
Original Author:Deepak Singh, Bentley Product Advantage Group

Problem Description

In isometric output, lap joint stub end shows wrong output as shown.

Case 1: Lap Joint Stub End shows wrong output in generated isometrics

Notice that in above image stub end is directly sitting to the flanged end of ball valve. It should have gasket sitting with flanged end of ball valve & stub should be with the flanged end of flange as shown in right hand side.

Reason

Wrong symbol is generating due to incorrect end prep defined for LAP_JOINT_STUB_END in spec database (*.mdb).

Lap Joint will be formed for the following end preps as shown below

Steps to Resolve

  1. Go to your Specs Databases folder. (as a pre-requisite user should have the basic knowledge of MS Access).

C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenPlantModeler V8i\WorkSpace\Projects\OPModeler_Metric\DataSet\Specs Databases. See below default path

  2. Select your spec file.
  3. Under MISC_FIT table.
  4. Go to EC_CLASS_NAME filed and search LAP_JOINT_STUB_END.
  5. Check the END_COND_1 field, ensure it should be LAP.

  6. Select any component (e.g. WELD_NECK_FLANGE) having END_COND_1 as FL, WAF or LAP.
  7. Place a WELD_NECK_FLANGE of end condition FL, WAF and LAP here placed LAP end.

  8. Place LAP_JOINT_STUB_END with Weld Neck flange having END_COND_1 as LAP as shown below

    In OpenPlant Modeler

  9. Generate isometric and see the symbol for this arrangement.

Case 2: Lap Joint Stub End shows wrong dimensioning in generated isometrics

As shown in above image, notice that dimensioning for lap joint stub end starts from face of lap joint flange, it should start from face of Lap joint stub end.

Reason

Incorrect dimensioning is generated due to incorrect end preparation for LAP_JOINT_STUB_END in spec database (*.mdb).

Steps to Resolve

  1. Go to your Specs Databases folder. (as a pre-requisite user should have the basic knowledge of MS Access).

C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenPlantModeler V8i\WorkSpace\Projects\OPModeler_Metric\DataSet\Specs Databases. See below default path

  2. Select your spec file.
  3. Under MISC_FIT table.
  4. Go to EC_CLASS_NAME filed and search LAP_JOINT_STUB_END.
  5. Check the END_COND_1 field, ensure it should be LAP.

  6. If END_COND_1 is different than LAP, modify it to LAP & save all the changes.
  7. Model an arrangement in OpenPlant Modeler with modified spec database as shown below.

  8. Create iso-sheet, publish i-model & generate isometric to verify the result as shown below.
