Overview

This TechNote describes how to set colors by layer for Isogen piping and fitting symbols, dimensions and other items.

The Steps

1. Open the FINAL.DDF file located here:

..\%PROJECT_ROOT%\%PROJECT_NAME%\Config\Isogen\Final\

2. Change the LAYER-NAMES section heading to LAYER-NAMES-COLOURS
3. Under the above heading add the line:
Default-COLOUR 7
4. Modify the following line to add the color callout for the BOM:
18 ‘MATLIST' COLOUR 1

NOTE: The color settings are directly related to the AutoCAD color settings. I.E. 7=white, 1=red, etc.

5. Save and close the FINAL.DDF file.
6. Run an iso from an existing model and note the changes.

NOTE: Isogen requires the spelling noted above for the word COLOUR or COLOURS
NOTE: These steps can be applied to any layer created using the FINAL.DDF file

Another way to do this is to define the layers and colors within a drawing frame. If a Drawing Frame is created and the layer names match those in the DDF file then they will be utilized by Isogen.

1. Create a drawing frame in AutoCAD.
2. Using the layer manager, create layers that correspond to the names as defined in the DDF file.
3. Assign each layer the required color.
4. Save and close the file.
5. Open Project Administrator.
6. Go to the following directory: ..\project name\Isogen\Input.
7. If it is not already specified, browse to the FINAL.DDF file in the path for Drawing Definition, but do not Edit it. Note: The Drawing Definition Editor may change the format of the file so that it cannot be used with AutoPLANT. The DDF file should be modified in Notepad.
8. Now edit the Options File in the same area ..\project name\Isogen\Input.
9. Change Option Switch 71 (on the first page) to "Smart DWG".
10. Save and close the Options Editor.
11. Specify the path for the Drawing Frame in the same Proejct Administrator area ..\project name\Isogen\Input.
12. Go to the menu pick: File > Save... and exit Project Administrator.
13. Restart AutoPLANT and generate an iso.
