Hi Scott,
The email did not show up and at the risk of being spammed I will give the correct address steve_531@bigpond.com if you would like to try again. Given that the wider ProjectWise community does not seem to be experiencing this issue I would be interested in comparing computing environments to see if we have anything in common such as anti-virus software or server setup that may give some clues.
If it helps.....
With regard to the issue detailed by your user, I am familiar with this scenario where the user exits MicroStation and is not prompted by ProjectWise to check-in files (i.e ProjectWise/ MicroStation integration is broken) This scenario some times occurs for the 'named user' (in your email beckerj) as well. When the scenario descibed in your email occurs I get both users to exit Microstation/ InRoads and ProjectWise. I then get the user to re-start ProjectWise and check-in any files, via the local document organiser, that they wish to save BEFORE restarting their MicroStation session. I have not seen any instances where the local document organiser 'loses' track of checked out files. Users should not have to swap files around in PC Working Directory dms folders.
Regards,
Steve
Scott, when PWE "just closes", do you get a standard Windows error reporting dialog ? Also, could you look in your local machine's Windows Event Viewer for records related to the crash at that time ?
Steve, I tried to send an email to the address. Did you get it?
This is the latest from this morning:
I have been having some issues with PW this morning. I checked out a dgn and alg and did some work in it. At some point PW asked me to create a user folder for beckerj. This has happened before about 3 times. I believe Scott had been looking into this with Bentley. When I tried to check the file in, PW did not know that I had it checked out and just closed. I was able to save my alg by manually overwriting the one on PW with the one on my C drive, but I should not have to do this. The error cost about 20 minutes of my time. I am not telling you this to be a complainer, just to inform you of what's happening - and it always seems to happen when I'm under the gun to get something out the door.
Message for Scott.
Given the difficulty I (and Bentley Tech Support) are experiencing in trying to isolate what is causing this issue, due to its very intermittent nature. I would be interested in comparing I.T. environments to see if both sites have anything in common (such as Anitvirus Software, Database or Server type) that may need to be investigated.
If you wish to do this (and prefer to have this discussion "off forum") I have set up a temporary email address where you can send your response as follows "steve_531_at_bigpond.com" where _at_ = @.
Thanks,
Steve.
In the Datasource settings is the "Allow Users to Fetch documents to the same location" turned on?

Our site is still experiencing this issue occurs about three or four times a week. When it occurs I get both users (user receiving the message and the 'named' user) to exit MicroStation and ProjectWise. Typically when the 'named' user exits MicroStation they are no longer prompted to check in their file i.e. ProjectWise intergration is broken.
Scott, does your site experience the same behaviour?
It is interesting to note that it appears to be occurring with later versions of ProjectWise and MicroStation.
Scott, there is no immediately obvious reason why this is happening. TSG will pursue this with the ProjectWise development teams.
shenry, do you have a ST# or a TR# that can be referenced ?
Mike
I have a recent install of 08.11.07.107 that after 2 weeks began getting reports of this issue. I did a search and found this thread.
Shared files is not turned on, so is there an explanation from Bentley why this is suddenly happening?
Thankyou DeanLyon and jgburrill for responding.
In answer to your suggestions
1. The site is not using any PW customisations
2. Shared file access is not enabled.
Information found in log files (and identified by Bentley Tech Support) suggest that ProjectWise is, very intermittantly, not re-authenticating with the PW Server correctly after the PW client has timed out (600 seconds) due to an inactive session. The PW Client inactive timeout is 'works as designed' the intermittant failed re-authentication, when the user performs a task that involves communicating with the ProjectWise Server, is not.
Time to go back to the log files.........
ProjectWise version 08.11.05.37 and MicroStation v8i 08.11.05.17
While working on an existing drawing, with MicroStation, the user has a message appear on the screen "Working Directory c:\documents and settings\SOME_OTHER_USER_NAME\my documents does not exist do you want to create it?" appears when changing models or opening another file. Where SOME_OTHER_USER_NAME =
is alway a different user name to the current user.
On several occassions when this has occurred I have gone to the other user's PC and discovered that this users working directory has also swapped to that of the user who originally reported the problem. If both users logout of ProjectWise the issue fixes itself without having to alter working directories.
Have you or you users experienced this issue?
This issue has been logged as a support request but we are still in the information gathering phase at the moment.
